LG webOS TV Setup — Content Store Install and MAC Bind

LG smart TVs have run webOS since 2014, and webOS IPTV players follow the same pattern as Samsung: no login screen, just a MAC address you send us so we can attach it to your line by hand. Install from the LG Content Store, photograph the number, message support, reopen. About eight minutes.

webOS has its own quirks worth knowing before you start. The Content Store is region-locked like Samsung Smart Hub, and larger webOS updates occasionally regenerate the device key an app reports, which makes a working setup fail overnight. Both are one message to fix.

Step by step

Installing on an LG webOS TV

Works on webOS 3.0 and later comfortably. Sets from 2014 and 2015 run, but expect the channel list to scroll slowly.

  1. 1

    Check your webOS version

Settings → All Settings → General → About This TV shows it. Anything from webOS 3.0 upwards handles a full channel list without complaint.

Tip · On webOS 1.x and 2.x sets, hide the country groups you do not watch straight away. The interface slows badly past a few thousand visible rows.

  2. 2

Install IBO Player Pro or Smart STB from the LG Content Store

Open the Content Store from the launcher bar, search for IBO Player Pro (recommended) or Smart STB, and install it like any other LG app.

Tip · If search comes back empty, the store region is the usual cause rather than your model. Support can tell you what is listed in your country.

  3. 3

Open it and note the MAC address

The player launches straight onto a screen showing a MAC address and usually a device key. Photograph it — that is what identifies your TV to the server.

Tip · LG reports separate MACs for the Wi-Fi and the LAN adapter. Send the one for the connection the TV is actually using.

  4. 4

Send it to support to be bound

Message the photo to WhatsApp at 212704548494 or email [email protected] with your order details. Binding is manual and takes a few minutes.

Tip · Planning to move the TV onto Ethernet later? Send both addresses now and we will register the change in advance.

  5. 5

Close the app properly, then reopen

Press Home, highlight the app card in the recents row, and flick it upwards to close it. Reopen and the channel list downloads by itself.

Tip · Backing out of a webOS app only suspends it. Without a proper close it will not re-check the bind, and you will think nothing happened.

  6. 6

    Fix the picture settings

Picture mode to Cinema or Filmmaker, TruMotion off. If anything else feeds this TV over HDMI, turn on HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color for that port.

Tip · TruMotion is LG's motion smoothing. Turning it off is the single biggest improvement you can make to live sport on an LG.

Most common snag

It worked yesterday, and after a webOS update it says unauthorized

Major webOS updates sometimes change the device key a player reports, even though the hardware MAC is unchanged. The app then sends an identifier we have never seen and the server refuses it, which looks exactly like an expired subscription but is not one. Reopen the player, photograph whatever key it now shows, and send it to support. We swap the bind over and it works again — no charge, and your remaining time is untouched.

Device questions

What people ask about this one

Which LG models work?
Anything running webOS, which means LG smart TVs from 2014 onwards. webOS 3.0 and later, roughly 2016 onwards, is where it feels genuinely comfortable. The 2014 and 2015 sets do work, but the interface takes its time with a 54,000-channel list, so hiding unused groups matters more on those.
Why is the player missing from the LG Content Store?
Almost always the store region rather than the model. LG lists different apps by country, and your region was fixed when the TV was first set up. Message support with your country and we will tell you which player is currently listed there, which is more useful than a name on a web page that goes stale.
Does the LG app cost anything on top of my subscription?
Some webOS players charge a small one-off activation to their own developer, per device. That is between you and the app maker; none of it comes to us, and it makes no difference to your line either way.
Can I use the same subscription on the LG and on a phone?
Yes. Install it wherever you like — the limit is how many devices stream at the same moment. The LG bind does not consume anything on its own. If you want the TV and a phone playing together, that is two connections, and support can adjust the count mid-subscription.

When you are ready

One app, one MAC, then it just runs

Install from the Content Store, send us the address on the splash screen, and the channel list arrives by itself. Nothing to buy and nothing to plug in.

No contract. 7-day money-back on every plan, trials excluded.

Stuck?

Unauthorized after an update? Send the new key

webOS updates can change the identifier your player reports. Photograph the current splash screen and send it to 212704548494 on WhatsApp or [email protected]. We re-bind it, free, whenever it happens.
