Because it is a small, closed platform with its own toolchain. Developers who build for Android reach phones, tablets, sticks, boxes and a large share of televisions with one codebase; webOS requires a separate build for a much smaller audience. So the well-known Android players never appear there, and the ones that do exist on LG are written specifically for it by smaller teams. That thin ecosystem is the actual reason your options are short. It is not a limitation of your subscription, and switching services will not lengthen the list by a single entry.

Current native players target webOS 3.0 and later, which covers LG sets from roughly 2016 onward. Check under Settings, then General, then About This TV, where the software version and model number appear together. Sets running the older NetCast platform, sold before webOS arrived, are outside every current player's support list and no store search will surface one. If your set falls there, stop looking for an app. A stick on a spare HDMI port is faster to set up than the workarounds people try, and it brings decoding the older panel does not have.

Where it works against you is text entry, which is still slow, and that is another reason the playlist goes in from a browser. If your player supports number-key channel entry, learn it: jumping straight to a channel number stays quicker than any pointer movement once you know your favorites.

Three, and each has a different answer. Guide data comes from the feed rather than the app, so a blank grid means the service sent no EPG for those entries, and clearing any external EPG URL usually recovers the rest. Recording is basic or absent on webOS players, because timers and series management live on Android-based apps that cannot run here, so an external stick is the fix rather than a setting. And memory is finite: past roughly 18,000 visible channels the player stutters on scroll, takes long seconds to draw the guide, or closes itself.
